India becomes the most favorite and most visited tourist spot in South Asia

In the past two decades, South Asia has become a tourist hotspot and has emerged as a significant tourist destination. According to recent studies held by Brookings India, most tourists are attracted to South Asia's natural and cultural diversity and its price competitiveness, which is a nonprofit public policy organization. The report also highlighted that the economies of South Asian countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka are sustained by tourism. But India has beaten all these countries to become a tourist hotspot.

India's National Tourism Policy and India's 'Incredible India' campaign has become successful and has attracted many foreign visitors. While India's share of tourist arrival is 1.2 percent, it has seen a gradual growth in travelers in recent times, especially in the South Asian regions. India has seen a gradual increase in tourism since 2017.

According to the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTTM), "a majority of the tourists visited India for religious and leisure purposes – 37% and 26% respectively about 14% of Bangladeshi nationals visited India for medical treatment". Reports also say that increased air connectivity to India has also contributed to the increase in tourist numbers.
