Singapore’s open economy depends heavily on tourism and business. But its vibrant but small economy has been hurting as the circumstances due to the pandemic are hard, especially for the food and beverage and hospitality industry. To help kickstart the economy, the country is now opening the Changi Airport for business travelers. But the business travelers will have to stay at the airport in a special bubble built for them.
Singapore has started taking applications for this program that will allow businessmen to come to the country and hold meetings at the Changi airport. Although these business travelers will not have to undergo quarantine for 14 days, they will have to stay in a bubble-like facility at the Changi airport.
The Changi airport facility will have 150 guestrooms and 40 meeting rooms, rising to 660 and 170, respectively, when the first phase is completed in May 2021. The facility, at its full capacity, will be able to host around 1,300 business travelers at a given time.
The visitors will have to undergo testing upon arrival and throughout their stays and observe the safety measures while conducting meetings at the facility. Meetings with locals will be conducted behind floor-to-ceiling dividers.
