Ministry of Electronics and IT makes the .bharat domain available in 22 languages

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) is promoting local content creation with vivid awareness programs. To make it more successful, the government is making the localized .bharat domain available in all 22 Indian languages. This will be one of the most significant steps taken by the government to improve content creation and innovation.

It was initially said that the .bharat domain would be available in five languages, but now the MeitY has approved to make it available in 22 languages. Anil Jain, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Internet Exchange of India (Nixi), a Delhi-based agency, stated that the central government's move is appreciable as it will provide a platform to the local content designers and IT sector students.

The .bharat domain has been categorized under the international domain, which id IDN TLD. With this status, India becomes the only country in the world with IDN TLD in 15 scripts and 22 languages. At the same time, other countries have a maximum of two IDN TLDs. With this, there will be more Indian-based website domain names to make the internet inclusive. The government has also launched Wikipedia and website contests to further fuel content usage in 22 languages.
