Cyber threats on industrial control systems are reaching an all-time high because the codes for ransomware and banking torjan are evolving rapidly. The latest reports from the X-Force Threat Intelligence Index 2020 suggest that hackers are making banking torjans more complex, targeting the manufacturing plants, and spoofing big tech firms to make phishing easier. IBM releases the X-Force Threat Intelligence Index annually and it contains significant threat details that are anticipated for the year by its research teams. In the report, researchers have highlighted the downfalls that faced in 2019 and they have predicted the changes for 2020. Attacks on operational techs and industrial control systems are on the rise since 2018. The number of attacks on OT was significantly higher than the total number of attacks that happened in the last 3 years.
Many attacks were carried out by ICS and SCADA hardware components, along with that brute force login tactics were also used. When the OT and IT infrastructures converge, there are high chances of the attacks to extend to the devices that have control over physical assets. 22 percent of incidents were reported in Asia, and almost 22 percent were reported in Europe. The insights in the reports were from IBM Securities that provide managed security services.
