In conversation with the encouraging leader and CE0 Jarkko Laaksonen:
1) Why was the company set up? And how did you expand your company?
Control Software was established in 2006 on Valentine’s Day. Our most important mission has been to create a place to work with our experts. We have been constantly growing since the inception of the company; nowadays we have offices in Singapore and Egypt.
2) What do you specialize in?
CS Control Software Oy specializes in automation solutions offering high quality know-how for several industries including power generation industry, marine control systems, smart city solutions and programmable logic controllers for drilling aggregates.
3) Can you brief us about some of your projects?
In 2006, we started to build automation software for a power plant in Indonesia and a Jet Boring system application in Canada. At the same time we started to hire more engineers for different industries. We focused for several years only on software and later on, we started to invite other experienced specialists to join the company. Additionally, we also develop our own applications. We started to make streetlight control solutions for dimming the lights based on traffic and weather conditions. Our company has come up with predictive maintenance applications and summed up our experience to build Neural Network based control system for streetlights. We noticed that our system was capable of forecasting traffic, and the same approach can be used to control and estimate traffic flow and provide the opportunity to optimize it before a traffic jam can form.
4) There is nothing more important for a successful business than a well-defined mission and vision. Can you explain your M&V statements in brief?
We are on a mission to create smart solutions, which saves energy, environment, money and time. Our smart city solutions can reduce even 60% of energy use and that way heighten efficiency. Our goal is to keep growing and deliver more solutions helping people.
5) What are the hurdles that your company faces?
We are still quite small and our operation is based only for cash flow. The challenges to get agreed payments in time can generate difficult situations. We try to follow incoming payments from different countries very closely to react fast for any problems. We are using bank financing to stabilize the cash flow. The biggest hurdles were to convince customers to have faith on our expertise and invest on our development. But of late, the good word is spreading and it gives us the opportunity to find new customers and develop new solutions for different customers.
6) What is something you encourage your employees to do?
I would want them to pursue their higher education. We support our employees to improve their education while still working for the company. It would be easier to for the youngsters to learn before responsibilities of family and additionally work responsibility sets in.
7) How satisfied are your clients with your products and services?
I think customers, who have been ordering our services since 2006 and still continue are quite satisfied. Some of projects we had have been discontinued due the changes in the industry or client’s needs.
8) Lastly, can you give us your stand on Artificial Intelligence considering your company’s involvement with AI projects?
Artificial Intelligence is going to be the next step of automation with well-designed solutions improving the effectiveness of manufacturing by lowering energy consumption and better scaling the process of production.
