The Future Food Industry - A Transition from Direct Purchasing To E-Commerce

The Future Food Industry - A Transition from Direct Purchasing To E-Commerce

The food industry is evolving and many are using the latest tech available on smartphones. In 2015, it was observed that online food delivery sales reached around $4 Billion. Later in 2016, around 33 percent rise in consumers using mobile phone apps to buy food, hotel reservations, and groceries. Consumers are aware of the fact that digitalization is taking over and using these apps and services many consumers save time and money.

The best part of these apps is that it is free and every time one uses these apps, they get certain offers. In the past groceries were always bought directly from supermarkets such as Walmart, Kroger, and other retail stores. But now after the collaboration of Kroger and Ocado, a huge transition has taken place where consumers can now order groceries online and make it simple and easy for those who go to work and do not have enough time to go to a supermarket. It is also important to realize that in 2017, it was estimated that 31 percent of Americans used online supermarket apps. In order to stay in the market, Amazon procured WholeFoods and is now running the race for online marketing with Kroger.

Voice technology is not far behind; Google and Amazon are putting in lots of efforts for those 40 percent consumers who are likely to use these apps in the next three years. Although these companies haven’t got the majority yet, we might see a growth in consumers in the future.
